US: Beer Institute lobbying details disclosed

The Beer Institute lobbied the US government to the tune of US$640,000 in 2007, according to a recent disclosure form.
In a form filed with the Senate's office of public records last month, the trade group said it spent the funds lobbying the US Congress on bills affecting advertising and labelling regulations, taxes, airline personnel training and efforts to combat underage drinking
The Washington DC-based group, whose membership includes companies such as Anheuser-Busch, Coors Brewing and Miller Brewing, split its lobbying spend $310,000 in H1 and $340,000 in the second half.
As well as Congress, the organisation also lobbied the departments of Treasury and Health and Human Services, as well as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the disclosure detailed.
Since the introduction of a federal law in 1995, lobbyists are required to disclose activities that could influence members of the executive and legislative branches.
