CHINA: Beer consumption figures released

The latest figures for Chinese beer consumption have been released.
The country's alcoholic drinks industry association said late last week that, in 2005, beer consumption in China broke 30m tons. No previous figures were released.
Per capita beer consumption stood at 24.2m litres in 2005, the association noted.
The figures were unveiled by the association's secretary, Wang Yancai, during the China International Wine Industry Expo 2006 on Friday (1 September).
China continued to hold the top spot globally or both producing and consuming beer for the fourth consecutive year, Wang noted.
The value of production value exceeded CNY400bn (US$50.3bn) in 2005.
