IRELAND/US: Beamish teams up with Carlsberg in US
Irish brewer Beamish & Crawford, a unit of Scottish & Newcastle, has signed a deal with Carlsberg that will see the Danish brewer import Beamish stout into the US.
S&N runs its own import business in the US but Beamish & Crawford said the UK brewing giant was focusing on building sales of flagship brand Newcastle Brown Ale across the Atlantic.
A spokesperson from Beamish & Crawford said: "Carlsberg USA have a portfolio of brands which allows a better fit for Beamish Stout distribution in the US. Scottish & Newcastle is focusing its attention on Newcastle Brown Ale, which is the fastest-growing beer import in the US. This arrangement is specifically in place for the US market only."
Beamish's namesake stout will be available in Irish and English pubs in major US cities including New York, Philadelphia and Chicago.
"This is an exciting development for us," Beamish & Crawford MD Alf Smiddy (pictured) added. "While consumers in the US will have the opportunity to enjoy Beamish Stout, the brand will benefit from the distribution capability of Carlsberg USA."
