Beam is increasing its interest in Irish whiskey

Beam Inc is set to boost its Irish whiskey portfolio with the acquisition of the 2 Gingers brand.

The spirits group, which already produces the whiskey at its Kilbeggan Distilling Company, announced late on Friday (7 December) that it has agreed to acquire the brand for an undisclosed sum. It follows Beam's acquisition of Cooley Distillery and Kilbeggan in January.

As part of the latest deal, 2 Ginger's founder, Kieran Folliard, will become Beam's "chief Irish whiskey ambassador in the US".

Folliard will also hold the post of 2 Gingers' COO and chief ambassador for Kilbeggan Distilling Company. He will take an “active role in the development of the experience between the American customer base and the Kilbeggan Distillery and Visitor Center in County Westmeath, Ireland”, Beam said.

Folliard introduced 2 Gingers, currently only available in Minnesota, onto the market in January this year. He previously owned a group of Irish-themed pubs in Minneapolis-Saint Paul – the Twin Cities – which he sold last year.
