The new Ballantine's 12 Year Old (right) has a blue label

Pernod Ricard has added a blue label to its Ballantine's 12 Year Old blended Scotch whisky as part of a packaging overhaul.

The new design is similar to Ballantine's Finest, which was updated in 2013, and is meant to reinforce the link between the two expressions, Pernod said. It takes the chevron-shaped label of Ballantine’s Finest and gives a greater prominence to the number 12.

Ballantine’s global brand director, Peter Moore, said: “We’re confident that the new design, which is now in line with Ballantine’s Finest, will encourage consumers to trade up to Ballantine’s 12 Year Old for special occasions.”

The bottle will roll out across Ballantine's global markets, including Travel Retail.

This week, Pernod lined up the launch of an extension of its Royal Salute blended Scotch brand, Eternal Reserve.
