Bacardi USA is planning to launch a tequila and rum combination in early-September under the brand name Ciclon.

The new brand will be targeted at 21- to 29-year-olds, with the prime focus on male drinkers in the 21 to 24 year age bracket.

The specialty spirit will be a combination of Bacardi Gold Rum, infused with blue agave Tequila and flavoured with lime. Ciclon has been in the pipeline for more than three years and the company has invested some $1m in R&D and consumer testing.

With Ciclon, Bacardi USA is aiming to capitalise on two growing market segments in the US, rum and tequila. The rum category has seen a 33% increase over the past five years while tequila consumption has swelled by 53%. The brand will be launched in both the on and off premise sectors and will, says Bacardi, be supported by a multi-million dollar marketing campaign.
