Bacardi Lion has appointed a new MD as the previous encumbent has quit the group after ten years in the role.

Denis Brown replaced Colin Rochester in the post yesterday (3 February), the Bacardi and Lion Australian JV said. Rochester, who joined Bacardi in 2002 before becoming Bacardi Lion MD in 2004, has decided to leave to “seek new opportunities and challenges”, the Sydney-headquartered company said. His last day at the group will be 31 March.

James Brindley, Lion Australia's MD, thanked Rochester for his "very significant and positive contribution" to the JV.

Brown joins from the Australian Institute of Management NSW & ACT, where he has been chief client officer for around a year. Prior to that, he worked in a number of sales and marketing roles for Diageo, including as a sales director for its Australian unit.

The MD role will continue to report into the Bacardi Lion joint venture board of directors, which includes representatives from both Lion, a subsidiary of Japan's Kirin Holdings, and Bacardi.

Bacardi Lion started distribution of C&C Group's cider brand Magners in Australia last month, after the Irish company switched from Suntory.
