JAPAN: Asahi plans Beijing expansion - report

Asahi Breweries is reportedly planning to invest JPY800m (US$6.8m) to double capacity at its plant in Beijing.
Reports in Japan said yesterday (24 July) that the expansion is set to be complete by next spring. With Asahi also planning to open a new brewery in Zhejiang next May, the brewer is set to have the largest capacity in China among Japanese brewers.
Asahi, like its Japanese rivals, is focusing more on overseas beer markets as domestic beer consumption stagnates. Last week, the brewer also announced a package of cost-cutting measures to streamline its business in Japan.
