Asahi Breweries has opened a new plant in China. The plant, on the outskirts of Beijing, will eventually produce 100,000 tons of beer annually. It will be operated by Asahi's joint venture, Beijing Beer Asahi Co.

At a press conference in Beijing, Asahi president Koichi Ikeda said that the Chinese market is Asahi's biggest target for business expansion. By using the most advanced facilities and offering high-quality products, it will aim to turn profitable on an annual basis three years from now, Ikeda said.

The plant is Asahi's fifth production base in China.
