Asahi expands with Carlsberg in Malaysia

Carlsberg has agreed to distribute Asahi Breweries' Super Dry beer in Malaysia, according to a report.

Asahi will take advantage of Carlsberg's distribution network in the country to expand its own overseas beer sales, according to a report by Dow Jones yesterday (15 July).

The deal could not be immediately confirmed by just-drinks.

Earlier this year, Carlsberg agreed to import, distribute and sell Asahi's Super Dry in Hong Kong.

The two companies already work together in Russia, where Carlsberg unit Baltika began brewing Asahi Super Dry at its facility in St Petersburg in June 2008.

Asahi, alongside its rivals - Kirin Holdings, Suntory and Sapporo - has a long-term plan to expand overseas beer sales in order to reduce its reliance on the stagnant Japanese market.
