TURKEY: Anadolu Efes international sales drop

By | 18 January 2010

Anadolu Efes booked a decline in full-year sales in its international beer operations due to a reduction in beer demand caused by the global slowdown.

Sales at Efes Breweries International, a 73.5% subsidiary of Turkish Anadolu Efes, said today (18 January) that sales in Russia for 2009 decreased by 3.6% in volume terms to 10.7m hectolitres.

Consolidated sales volumes for the Anadolu Efes group, however, (including beer and soft drink volumes) were up 2.9% in 2009 compared to the previous year. Total beer sales volumes at 22.1m hectolitres in 2009 were down 1.9%

In 2009, sales volume of the firm’s Turkey beer operations reached 8.5m hectolitres, with 0.5% growth in its domestic market compared to the previous year.

Anadolu Efes recorded fourth quarter volume growth of 0.7% year-on-year. Fourth quarter total beer sales volume however, declined by 1.7%.

In September last year, Anadolu Efes acquired the remaining shares it didn’t already own in Efes Breweries International, upping its stake by only 3.5%.
