AmBev will continue to operate in Venezuela through its deal with Cerveceria Regional

AmBev has said it will maintain a presence in Venezuela despite the closure of a brewery in the country.

The Anheuser-Busch InBev subsidiary announced earlier this week that operations are stopping at its brewery in the city of Barquisimento. Reuters reported that the closure was due to a “prolonged slide in sales” in Venezuela.

In 2010, AmBev merged its beer business in Venezuela with the country's second largest brewer, Cerveceria Regional, in a bid to challenge market leader Empresas Polar.

But, in a statement to just-drinks, the company said the annoucement this week was related “solely” to the brewery closure.

“Ambev is still present in Venezuela through the commercialisation of its products by Cervecería Regional,” the statement added.

AmBev is recognised as Brazil's most valuable company by market value.
