AmBev claims that it has regained a small part of market share in the Brazilian beer sector. The brewer announced yesterday that it has gained 1.1% of the market in the month of January, taking its share up to 64.3%.

At the end of September last year, however, the company held 66.1% market share, while in June 2003, AmBev held 70.1%.

AmBev has seen its share of the Brazilian beer market erode, following aggressive marketing by local brewer Schincariol. AmBev said that the figures for January, from market researcher AC Nielsen, showed Schincariol's market share had dropped to 14.1%. In November, Schincariol held 15.2% share.
