Exports of Chilean wine and alcohol exports grew 1.4% in the first quarter of 2002 compared to the same period last year, the Chilean Agrarian Policy and Research Office announced Monday.

Wine and alcohol exports realized a total of US$182.6m, compared to $180m in the first four months of 2001.
 
The US remained the leading importer with 23.8% of the total, the UK was second with 18.4%, Canada third (5.5%), and Japan, Germany, Sweden, Denmark and The Netherlands followed with around 4 and 5% each.

Regional wines were the biggest contributors to the total making up 76.5% of the total exported, wine in bottles of up to 2.5 liters made up 12.5%, other wines 8.6%, sparkling wine 0.2% and pisco, a grape liquor, 0.1%.
