South Korean has seen its consumption of alcohol leap 20% since 1998 as Asia's economy recovered from the 1997 financial crisis, according to a report by the Ministry of Finance and Economy yesterday. The total amount of alcoholic consumed reached 3.06m kiloliters (kl) last year. Liquor consumption fell by 9.9% to 2.55m kl in 1998 from 2.83m kl in 1997, mainly driven by the Asian crisis.
