SOUTH AFRICA: Agave launches into North America

By | 7 March 2005

Cape-based Agave Distillers has landed listings for its Agava Silver and Agava Gold in British Columbia and Alberta in Canada and are in final negotiations with agents in Houston and London.

Agave Distillers chairman, Keith McLachlan, said he hoped that negotiations with an undisclosed UK agent would be finalised this week.

The South African spirit has been a hit, he said, because of its price, availability and the fact that it was the only none Mexican "tequila" on the international market.

"We met with executives from a Houston company which wants to launch a new product.  We are in the process of finalising the process of finalising this agreement which will require that we ship the equivalent of 75% of our first year's sales forecast in bulk to them," he said.
