US: A-B toasts end of Prohibition anniversary
By just-drinks.com editorial team | 7 April 2006
Anheuser-Busch today (7 April) ran an ad in a major US newspaper encouraging the country's beer drinkers to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition.
The ad was run under the auspices of the "Here's To Beer" campaign, an industry-wide marketing drive spearheaded by A-B, launched in February to boost stagnant beer sales in the US.
The execution featured in USA Today and encouraged beer drinkers to visit the campaign's website to take part in a competition to win a trip to the famous German beer carnival, Oxtoberfest.
"The repeal of beer's prohibition is one of our happiest anniversaries," said Bob Lachky, executive vice president, global industry development at Anheuser-Busch.
"After being deprived of legal alcohol for 13 years, thirsty Americans were again able to come together with family and friends to share a beer. This is truly a day to celebrate."
