Anheuser-Busch is unveiling a new energy drink on the US.

The brewer yesterday (11 October) unveiled 180 Blue - a soft drink which contains the Acai berry. The use of the berry, pronounced 'ah-sigh-ee', marks its first appearance in an energy drink in the US, A-B claims.

In addition to juice from the Acai berry, 180 Blue contains guarana, red grape and blueberry juices in addition to vitamins B-6 and B-12. The dark blue/purple drink is blended with vitamins and natural flavours and contains no artificial colours, A-B said.

"With 180 Blue we didn't set out to create just another energy drink," said Andy Goeler, vice president, import, craft and alliance at A-B. "We set out to give energy drinkers something unique, something unexpected and something they've never had before. We've taken today's energy drink a step further with 180 Blue by creating something that has the best of both worlds - a great-tasting energy drink with a boost."

The new beverage is available nationwide in 8-ounce and 16-ounce cans. 180 Blue joins 180 Orange Citrus Blast, launched in 2001, and 180 Energy X-3 Lemon-Lime Citrus Blast in A-B's energy drink portfolio.
