Report description

A new tax increase on wine, coupled with the economic downturn, led to Danish consumers cutting back on wine consumption 2012 as volume sales declined for the first time since 2005. From January 2012, the excise duty on wine was raised by DKr5.00 per litre of wine with an ABV of between 6% and 22%. This pushed retail prices up by 9% and led to some consumers, particularly younger ones, who are more price sensitive, to switch to spirits or RTDs/high-strength premixes.
