BMI View: We see real GDP in Tunisia expanding by 3.4% in 2014, from 3.1% growth in 2013. We project growth in the economy to accelerate by 4.8% in 2015, under our view that investor and consumer confidence will increase following elections. Improved stability also underpins our medium-term optimistic outlook on the Tunisian economy and we forecast GDP to expand by 4.3% annually in local currency terms over the 2014-18 period. Despite the signing of a new constitution in February 2014, there remains a high level of political uncertainty within the country, which will continue to impact investment by both domestic and foreign companies. Assuming political stability ensues, we are more bullish in the long term with our food consumption growth forecasts increasing from 4.7% in 2014 to 6.9% in 2016.

Headline Industry Data (local currency) ¦ 2014 food consumption growth (local currency): +4.7%; compound annual growth rate (CAGR) to 2018: +6.1%. ¦ 2014 per capita food consumption growth (local currency): +3.6%; CAGR to 2018: +5.0%.
