Report description
The IWSR’s Forecast Report 2010-2015 – Europe is taken from The IWSR’s Forecast Report 2010-2015, which analyses current and future trends for all wine and spirits categories, RTDs and beer.
The European section includes in-depth analysis of 30 key markets in Europe. Austria, Belgium and Luxembourg, Bulgaria, Canary Islands, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the Ukraine and the UK.
Each country’s section includes a summary of the wine market by category and the spirits market by category, an analysis of each category, including consumption data by sub-category and quality, share of the spirits market, and commentary on the current and future trends.
Some key findings from the report:
France is the third-largest whisk(e)y market in the world and consumption is forecast to continue to grow; it will gain over 1m cases by 2015.
Gin in the UK is regaining popularity. Premium brands are expected to grow the fastest and gain market share from value gins.
The Cognac market in Russia is forecast to grow by over 200,000 cases between 2009 and 2015, almost doubling in size.
Vodka in Germany is benefiting from consumers switching from korn and brandy, as well as its mixability. By 2015 it will make up 20% of total spirits consumption.
Despite Spain’s recent economic problems, the rum category is expected to be one of the fastest growing, gaining nearly 750,000 cases between 2009 and 2015.
