Volume
ValueThe value of the tire market throughout the leading five countries in Europe followed a very similar trend. The market was valued at €13.2bn in 2007 and all of
the countries within the leading five achieved growth in 2008, except Germany. The new tire market within Germany contracted by 9.2% and this led to an overall
decline of 1.8% in the value of the leading five tire markets. As a recession spread throughout much of Europe in 2009, value dropped by 8.2% in the leading five. The
market then returned to growth across the region in 2010 as it grew 10.5%. However 2011, saw contrasting fortunes throughout the region. The value of the tire market
in France, Spain, and Italy remained relatively stable in the face of continuing economic concerns, but the UK and Germany suffered another drop, which can be
attributed to consumer fears of another recession and the lack of supply of new tires, due to reduced production by the main manufacturers.
