Despite a double digit decline in fuel prices in 2009, the downward trend in fuel consumption continued with over a 6% fall in total fuel volume sales. The service station network continued to contract with a marginal decline of 0.7% in site numbers. OK maintained its market leading position followed by Shell and Statoil, while Uno-X lost the fourth spot to Q8 on account of decline in its market share. Denmark's overall shop penetration declined as the proportion of unmanned sites increased on account of players such as OK and Uno-X. Q8 expanded its Qvik to Go store format in a bid to improve its food service proposition. There was a slight increase of 2% in the number of sites with car washes.
