Saudi Arabia Food and Drink Report Q2 2013
Report description
We continue to maintain our bullish outlook on Saudi Arabia's consumer sector, which will be supported by continued government spending. We expect Saudi Arabia to remain on a solid growth path through 2013 despite the ongoing troubles in the global economy, with the non-oil sector continuing to expand on the back of booming household expenditure and another strongly expansionary budget from the government.
We expect private consumption to remain buoyant through 2013, and forecast growth of 5.0% for the year. Inflation has remained subdued relative previous years, averaging 4.5% year-on-year in 2012. As in the rest of the Gulf Cooperation Council, a downtrend in food prices over the year, in addition to extensive government subsidies on a wide array of basic consumer staples, have kept inflationary pressure relatively limited, a trend that we expect to continue over 2013.
