Plastic Containers NEW Industry forecasts for 2014 & 2019
Report description
This study analyzes the US plastic container industry. Product segments discussed include bottles and jars; tubs, cups and bowls; pails; food trays; cans; egg cartons; squeeze tubes (excluding laminate types); and others (such as plastic boxes). Among the markets covered are beverages, food, household cleaning chemicals, cosmetics and toiletries, pharmaceuticals, automotive chemicals, industrial and institutional cleaning chemicals, and others (such as adhesives and agricultural chemicals). This study excludes flexible packaging, carryout foodservice containers, medical device packaging, pharmaceutical vials, clamshells, blister packaging, injection molded cosmetic packaging (e.g., lipstick and compact cases), compact disc cases, caps and closures, bulk water and oil bottles, and such food storage items as TUPPERWARE containers.
Historical data (1999, 2004 and 2009) and forecasts for 2014 and 2019 are provided for plastic container demand (including merchant and captive production) in pounds (dry weight before conversion loss) and units by type, resin and end use. Unless specified, data on container demand by resin reflect the primary resin employed, which does not imply that the material indicated is the only resin used in the manufacture of the container. The term “demand” is used interchangeably with “sales” and “apparent consumption” and is defined as shipments from US production facilities, plus imports minus exports. In addition, the principal strategic, competitive and technological factors impacting the US plastic container industry and its end users are evaluated. Theindustry’s major players are identified and profiled and US market share is discussed. The entire study is framed within the context of overall economic conditions.
