JM Smucker Co, The in Hot Drinks (USA)
The JM Smucker Co has been increasing its coffee business in the US through a series of acquisitions. In 2011 the company purchased Sara Lee’s hot drinks division to have access to consumers who buy coffee away from home. This followed its US$3.0 billion purchase of Folgers coffee and its associated coffee brands from Procter & Gamble in 2008. The move was a significant one for the company, with coffee being seen as a complement to its existing spreads, sandwiches and oils and fats businesses.
