Introduction and Landscape
Why was the report written?
The Global Iced/RTD Tea Report 2013 is an essential guide for anyone with an interest in the global Iced/RTD Tea drinks market and forms part of Canadean’s best selling series of global soft drinks reports.

What is the current market landscape and what is changing?
Sales of iced/rtd tea drinks grew in all regions in 2012 with the exception of Asia where China suffered a 12% drop. This was primarily due to decreased sales amongst leading players such as Tingyi (Kangshifu) and Wahaha (Wahaha Group).

What are the key drivers behind recent market changes?
Asia remains by far the largest centre of consumption, but the most incremental growth in 2012 came from North America (+280 m litres). The refreshing taste and perceived natural, healthy image of iced/rtd tea drinks will continue to generate growth and place the category in a good position to take advantage of the slowing carbonates market.

Key Market Issues
The share of low calorie products struggled to expand and saw only fractional growth. It remained at around 7% of the market.

Despite a widening flavour pool, lemon remained as by far the most popular in 2012, though at 33% of volume it was two percentage points down on the previous year. Peach, the second largest single flavour, remained rigidly at 6%. Herbs and spices, which had overtaken peach in 2010, suffered from the Asia collapse and slipped back into third place.

Key Highlights
Of the impressive 18.7 bn litres forecast to join the market between 2013 and 2018, over 15 bn litres is projected to come from Asia, with a massive contribution from China (as it overcomes its temporary setback) and Indonesia.

Most carbonated consumption continued to occur in West Europe (primarily Benelux) in 2012. The region was responsible for a reducing share of 55% of global volumes. In recent years it has lost considerable ground to Asia as volume has built up in China and Indonesia.
