Key Market Issues
The share of low calorie products struggled to expand and saw only fractional growth. It remained at around 7% of the market.

Despite a widening flavour pool, lemon remained as by far the most popular in 2012, though at 33% of volume it was two percentage points down on the previous year. Peach, the second largest single flavour, remained rigidly at 6%. Herbs and spices, which had overtaken peach in 2010, suffered from the Asia collapse and slipped back into third place.

Of the impressive 18.7 bn litres forecast to join the market between 2013 and 2018, over 15 bn litres is projected to come from Asia, with a massive contribution from China (as it overcomes its temporary setback) and Indonesia.

Most carbonated consumption continued to occur in West Europe (primarily Benelux) in 2012. The region was responsible for a reducing share of 55% of global volumes. In recent years it has lost considerable ground to Asia as volume has built up in China and Indonesia.
