The strong performance of the German economy helped Austria to register an improvement in its GDP during this time, and the country recorded an average GDP growth rate of 2.9% during 2004–07. Austria subsequently recorded a GDP growth of 2.2% in 2008; however, it was unable to shield itself from the global economic crisis and the economy contracted by 3.8% in 2009. More recently, the Austrian economy recovered smartly in 2010 to register a growth rate of 2.0%."
