Cameroon Food and Drink Report Q2 2013
Report description
Established as one of West Africa's most developed consumer sectors, Cameroon's economy has performed steadily over the past decade, with real GDP growth averaging 3% between 2005 and 2011. A per capita GDP of about US$1,300 and a relatively well-developed food and drink industry suggest that Cameroon is further along than a number of regional economies, although this is of course relative.
Indicators such as per capita beer consumption, at about 26 litres in Cameroon, support the view that Cameroon's food and drink industry is relatively well developed. Across much of Sub-Saharan Africa, this figure is between five and 15 litres. Across a lot of West Africa, the growth dynamics in food and fastmoving consumer goods are very similar. With incomes going up and more people able to afford branded goods, there is a lot of room for growth, and only the surface of this potential has been scratched.
