BMI View: BMI views Angola as one of the most promising economies in Sub-Saharan Africa over the next decade. Angola's GDP is forecast to increase year-on-year (y-o-y) by an average of 6.5% to 2023. Despite vast inequality in wealth distribution, rapid economic expansion will raise incomes across the board, thus boosting consumption levels in the food and drink industry. Although foreign investors are restricted to large developments and available land is limited, especially when situated close to urbanised areas, an underdeveloped retail sector provides many opportunities.

Key Forecasts

¦ Per capita food consumption (local currency) growth (y-o-y) in 2014: +14.0%; compound annual growth rate (CAGR) to 2018: +13.1%.

¦ Beer production volume (litres) growth (y-o-y) in 2014: +8.8%; CAGR to 2018: +8.9%.

¦ Mass grocery retail sales (local currency) growth (y-o-y) in 2014: +21.7%; CAGR to 2018: +19.5%.
