Harvest Report 2006 - Bordeaux

Early hopes that 2006 was going to be an outstanding vintage in Bordeaux were all but dashed by unfavourable weather conditions in August and September, but the Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux is still confident that 2006 will produce classic wines with good ageing potential. FRANCE: Bordeaux urges government backing of EU reform

Bordeaux wine professionals fear that proposed EU reforms of the wine industry could be hijacked by a French government keen on micro-managing wine production. “The government is showing reluctance towards the reforms, whereas we are in full favour,” said Allan Sichel, president of the Bordeaux négociants federation.

FRANCE: CIVB reports buoyant Bordeaux exports

The Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux (CIVB) has said exports from the region rose in volume and value terms for the year to 31 July. Export volumes increased by 4% to 1.8m hectoliters, while revenues jumped 24% to EUR1.2bn (US$1.6bn).
