RE: EUR/ISRAEL: Drinks industry to benefit from EU-Israel trade deal
What (if any) is the anticipated impact on spirits of the elimination of "certain" import duties between the EU and Israel?

Well free trade as all about creating level playing fields in export markets fighting domesic competition and fuellign demand.....and getting aheead of competitors with less favourable trade terms....so objectively, it is an opportunity to make additional sales...

Keith is right - this is all about level playing fields. The EU has been, and is, negotiating bilateral trade deals with countries around the world. In terms of drinks, the aim is to bring duty tax on wine and spirits imported from the EU down to the level imposed on drinks produced domestically in that country. Further measures may also be sought, such as asking the third country to recognise and respect EU Geographical Indications on products - like Scotch whisky.
