RE: CAMEROON: Diageo appoints Eto’o as Guinness ambassador
Breweries will insist on hiring well known soccer players to become associated with their brands of beers. Many years ago the Brahma Breweries in Brazil sponsored three or four of the national soccer team stars in beer ads in a big campaign as the team prepared for a World Cup in the 90´s. That time Brazil won, but one of the "stars" was soon involved in various sorts of family and disorderly conduct problems which made the brewery sorry it had become associated with the player´s image. A decade later AMBEV made the same mistake but after superstar Ronaldo and Brazil lost the final to France, they also quickly disassociated the "Brahma" beer brand from their recent ambassador despite the millions disbursed! My advice years before these events was and remains the same.., Sponsor Sport events and coverage, but never become directly involved with superstars or even teams for that matter.
