RE: Research - Brazil soft drinks sector can weather economic storm
Sorry to tell you that even "Crazy Quid" Lula da Silva has been forced to publicly admit that it is unlikely there will be any growth in the Brazilian Economy in 2009 and that "zero growth" would be great in the face of what is happening in the USA, Scandinavia, Germany, Spain, etc, etc.. and of course he blames it all on his predecessor of some 6 years ago and now threatens us with an attempt to go for a 3rd mandate in 2010 if his former terrorist and never once elected Presidential Candidate Dilma Roussef (involved in the kidnapping of a USA Ambassador in the past) does not manage to improve her ratings substantially in the political research surveys already underway.

RE: Research - Brazil soft drinks sector can weather economic storm
Despite the increase of 4,1% in industrial output for the 3rd quarter in relation to the 2nd quarter , according to the IBGE (govt statistics) in the year 2009 industrial ouput from January to September included accumulates an 7,8 % decrease in comparison to same period in 2008. The govt cut the IPI (Industrial Production Tax) to as little as zero on many items, including washing machines, stoves, refrigerators, small cars, etc. Vehicle sales to the end of September increased 6,1% to 2,597,000 but as the govt started to reimpose the IPI tax to recover massive loss of revenues, Vehicle sales in October have declined 4,6% in relation to the previous month. Govt has postponed Income tax restitutions and public investments and expenses to keep the Treasury afloat...and the fact is that the undeclared political campaign for 2010 has been going on for a at least a semester...so I for one, am not as optimistic as Simon Maddrel, even as soft drinks prices, led by AMBEV have increased throughout the industry...
