Absolut Vodka is one of the world’s largest brands of spirits. The premium vodka brand has enjoyed rapid growth, with almost 11m 9-litre cases sold in 2007, up from just 10,000 in 1979. Each bottle of Absolut vodka is produced in Åhus, in southern Sweden. The brand is owned by the French group Pernod Ricard, which acquired it when it bought the state-owned Swedish group Vin & Sprit for EUR5.69bn, a deal it closed in July 2008. Absolut's leading markets include the US, Sweden, Canada and Greece, as well as China, Brazil, India, Russia, Turkey, Germany, Spain, Poland, UK and Mexico. Some 500,000 bottles of Absolut Vodka are produced every day in the town of Åhus, in southern Sweden. The Absolut advertising campaign that ran from 1981 to 2007 was recognised by Advertising Age as one of the 20th century’s top 10 advertising campaigns.
