SOUTH AFRICA: DGB expands bottling facility

By Richard Hurst   South African independent wine and spirits importer, exporter and distributor DGB is entering the second phase of a three-phase expansion of its Wellington base, near Cape Town, in this instance involving a new bottling facility and extra warehousing. Chris Smit production director of DGB said that the Rand 60 million project will assist in increasing capacity and efficiency.

SOUTH AFRICA: SA wines target Asian markets

Wines of South Africa, a non-profit organisation responsible for the promotion of South African wines, has reported that South African wine exporters are to begin targeting east Asian markets as a key to future growth. The recent move will build on the industry's existing successful penetration of the European markets coupled with the signing of the wine and spirits agreement between South Africa and the EU.

AFRICA: Coke Sabco granted opportunity for African expansion

The Kenyan finance Minister Chris Okemo has granted competition approval for Coca Cola Sabco, of South Africa, to increase its dominance of the east African country's soft drinks market. Sabco is now likely to try and increase its stake in Nairobi Bottlers, which has 52% of the market, and acquire opposition East African Bottlers, which has a market share of roughly 2%.
