Yesterday (29 May), Diageo announced its intention to spend US$115m on a new whiskey distillery in the US. Here, we look at the company's existing production footprint in the country:

Diageo has four facilties that span distillation, maturation and bottling:

  • Relay, Maryland (Diageo's main bottling facility in the US for Captain Morgan rum and a number of other brands)
  • Stitzel-Weller in Louisville, Kentucky (barrel storage and soon to be a visitor centre)
  • The George A Dickel Distillery in Tullahoma, Tennessee (distillation and maturation, a small bottling line currently used for Orphan Barrel brands and Dickel’s Buy-the-Barrel programme, and a visitor centre)
  • The US’s largest bottling facility in Plainfield, Illinois (US production facility for a range of Smirnoff and Smirnoff Ice, among others, and home to the group's North America brand technical facility)

The company also has seven wineries and wine bottling operations, all in California:

  • Blossom Hill Winery - Paicines 
  • Chalone Vineyards - Soledad
  • Acacia Vineyards - Napa
  • Provenance - Rutherford
  • Beaulieu Vineyards - Rutherford
  • Sterling Vineyards - Calistoga
  • Sonoma Bottling & Distribution
