Consolidation in the drinks bottling business has continued apace in 2011 – and, we're only a month in. Last week, Embotelladoras Arca said it would merge with its Mexican rival, Grupo Continental, to create what the two firms claim is the second largest bottling group in Latin America, behind Coca-Cola FEMSA.

The merger follows on the heels of The Coca-Cola Co's and PepsiCo's decisions last year to bring their major bottling affiliates in-house. Mexico-based Coca-Cola FEMSA, meanwhile, last year stated its desire to swallow more bottlers. As Latin America's drinks market develops, we can expect a lot more consolidation in the bottling and distribution spheres in the coming months.

On the features front, last week saw Ben Cooper consider the fine line being walked – or not - by soft drinks companies when it comes to making health claims. And, in just-drinks' most narcissistic move since … the last one, our monthly interview slot has undergone a name-change. First-up, this month sees yours truly sit down – finally - with Stella David, the CEO of William Grant & Sons.

If there is anyone in particular you'd like to see me grill, then drop me a line at news@just-drinks.com.

And, I won't tell them it was you.

Until next time...
