What now for the Champagne market?
It's been a busy past few weeks in the just-drinks research store, with lots of new research being made available by just-drinks and our suppliers. One product I want to highlight for you is just-drinks' new Champagne report.
The recent news that Champagne sales were 5% down in 2008 was troubling, if hardly surprising, for marketers of France's premier sparkler. After all, last year was not one where the celebration and conspicuous consumption with which Champagne is virtually synonymous were much in evidence.
As Champagne’s major markets slide into recession, the sector’s fortunes are taking a turn for the worse, with key markets like France, the UK and the US particularly badly affected.
This coincides with the publication of a new just-drinks report on the Champagne market, which forecasts these tough times to continue for at least the next three years.
This 2009 edition of just-drinks' popular global market review of Champagne outlines the issues facing the industry and we completely revise and update our market estimates - taking into account the recent downturn and likely continuation into 2009.
How will Champagne fare over the short-term future? Find out with this 2009 edition - the most up-to-date source on what's happening with the sector on a global basis.

Global market review of international rum - forecasts to 2012
Rum is widely tipped as the next hot international category. Rum is undoubtedly substantial in terms of volume and breadth of markets, but has tended to lag behind other categories, such as Scotch, in terms of its international and premium development.
This is the second edition of just-drinks' popular global market review of international rum. Now jointly published with The IWSR, this edition provides a much broader and deeper set of consumption volume and value data and company/brand market shares.

Understanding Alcoholic Drinking Occasions: The On-Trade
Consumers are adopting a more moderate approach to alcohol consumption, which is encouraging greater diversity within more frequent drinking occasions. Consumers' "less but better" attitudes and a desire for indulgence, despite economic uncertainty and strong growth in off-trade sales, offer marketers opportunities to tap into the value generation potential that still exists within the on-trade.
This report provides detailed quantitative analysis of on-trade alcohol consumption indicators including occasions by type, market value and volume data. A qualitative examination of the 'who, when and why' of on-trade alcoholic drinks consumption is also offered, tracking the shift to frequent but moderate occasions.
