So, there we were last week, leaning back in our executive chairs, feet on the table, blowing party horns listlessly at each other, wondering how you were all getting on out there with the Christmas sales push. This time of year is traditionally slower on the news front, with so many of you making hay while the sun shines – figuratively speaking, of course.

Then, the phone rings. It’s hold the front-page time for us (again) with a scoop, and what a scoop.

Last week, we exclusively announced the sale of New Zealand’s Independent Liquor to CCMP and Pacific Equity Partners for just under US$900m.

We were thrilled at having a source in a position to give us the lowdown before any other news outlet knew about it. That the deal was taking place on the other side of the world to us, shows just how far just-drinks’ reach has spread over the last few years.

As you can probably guess from the trumpeting of this weekly newsletter, this is the last missive of the year from yours truly. We’ve had an excellent year, and we hope you have too. With thanks to you all for your support/kind words/invitations in the last 12 months.

We’ll be with you until Friday, then draining/recharging the batteries between then and 2 January, when we return to continue with our quest of providing you with all you need to know about your industry in 2007.
